Near to the Broken
Not long after the tsunami hit in 2005, I called my friend Mustafa up to see how he was doing. Mustafa works for a relief organization called Shelter For Life, and I knew that they would be busy bringing relief and support to those affected by the Tsunami. When he answered his phone the voice I first heard sounded weary. We chatted for a bit and then after hanging up the phone my heart was heavy and so I prayed for Mustafa. As I was thinking about how tired Mustafa was, I began to consider how difficult it must be in Sri Lanka and the many other areas that were hit. My imagination could not even begin to grasp how much loss and pain so many individuals were going through .This is how this song came to be. It’s not so much a personal testimony as it is meant to honor those who have held tightly to God in the midst of despair. I only can pray that I will respond in a similar way when pressed in this life.
