You Are The Water
My friend Scott wrote this song. It is a song I feel like I could have
written. Not because I’m an amazing song writer, but because I love
this song so much. Every time I sing it I honestly picture a steady stream
of sparkling water being dumped into my soul.
Here are a few thoughts…
Jeremiah 2:12-13 Be appalled O Heavens, at this; be shocked, be utterly
desolate, declares the Lord. for my people have committed two evils; they
have forsaken me the fountain of living waters and hewed out cisterns
for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
Here 2 sins are listed:
1. they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters
2. hewed out broken cisterns for themselves that hold no water
Definition for cistern: a tank for storing water
What a comparison this is! Imagine… A waterfall uncontaminated;
bringing life to every thing it touches; refreshing, cool, and beautiful.
Now imagine that an individual has access to this kind of water and instead
of enjoying the benefits, they choose and use a water tank that stores
toilet water; only it doesn’t even hold the water. Wouldn’t
you be appalled if someone ignored the obvious best resource? That is
what God is saying. He is claiming to be the fountain of living waters
and yet He sees His people trying to be filled by things that will never
satisfy.
Oh Lord, if only we would see that you are the living water; that we would
thirst for you and allow you to satisfy our longing.
