Doubting Thomas

Hello friends,

I hope you are all doing well. I only wish that I would have the time to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with each of you. More and more I see the need and joy of living life with others. I just got off of the phone with one of my dear friends from Silver Birch Ranch. Rich is genuine, kind, honest, and caring. He is in his 50’s and he feels like a comrade in the pursuit to know Christ more and make Him known to others.

We were talking about times in our lives where we’ve struggled with disbelief .

I remember a time, maybe 4 or 5 years ago, when I talked with 2 individuals who were part of a cult. It was my goal to share with them the truth of God’s word. We talked for a good 4 hours. The weeks following that conversation were weeks of great doubting and struggle. Wondering if I believed in Jesus just to make myself feel better. That it was somehow a pretend idea that would allow me to sleep alright at night. I didn’t want to tell anyone and so I cried out to God. Literally cried… I remember that was a time for many tears. I pleaded with Him to make Himself known. I figured that if God really is God than He could show me. And show me He did. The most random and maybe seemingly meaningless situations began to come my way and hit my heart as a deep affirmation and confirmation that God was still there loving me all the while.

It was really quite an odd time. One moment I would be feeling as though God must not exist and the very next as song would come on the radio that would be just what I needed to hear.

At some point in that time I remembered that the book of John was written for the doubters. Written for the ones who question. Written for the masses.

And so I pick up the bible again and asked God to make Himself known through these words.
Even within the book John says,

The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written that you might continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah , the Son of God, and that by believing in Him you will have life by the power of His name.

So these words–the book of John–was written that we might continue to believe. He has given us everything we need for life and godliness. If you are doubting, that’s ok for a time. Hold tightly to the things you can be sure of. Take a look at John 20:24-31. Thomas was a doubter at one point. God’s word says that when you seek Him you will find Him. So don’t merely seek. Seek Him. Read the book of John. Some things we will never know…

Romans 8:26- And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example , we do not know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

And some things we do know.

Romans 8:28- And we know that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.

Much love,

Katie
